Meet the Piano Doctor
- Chris Long studied piano tuning in 1973 with the
late Havard Kitchens.
- He holds a Ph. D. in physics and has taught
university students and graduate students for many
years.
- He has authored or
co-authored research papers,
most published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- He analysed approximate
commesurability in repeating
systems.
- He holds a U.S. patent
on a novel musical instrument which has keys arranged in the
circle of fifths. The instrument was designed to play in
just
intonation in all the keys.
- He is the inventor of the
board game TriDots and author of a computer realisation of it.
- His knowledge of physics
and mathematics helps him understand the workings of the piano
and the equally tempered musical scale.
- He enjoys playing music,
growing vegetables, and swimming.
